This week the House passed the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, which would strengthen our hate crimes laws and increase support for victims. This bill was developed in response to the dramatic increase in hate crimes and violence against Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders taking place around the country, like the senseless and terrible mass shooting in Atlanta in March.
We also passed a bill to create a commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection. The Commission would work to find the facts and the truth about what happened and provide recommendations to address the circumstances that led to the insurrection and the breach of our nation’s Capitol. I spoke on the floor in support of this bill.
We can’t move on from the violent Capitol riot until we know what happened, why, and make sure it never happens again. On behalf of our brave Capitol Police, the staff who serve our constituents, and all those dedicated to protecting our democracy, we must uncover the truth.

Last week, I introduced the COVID Vaccine Transportation Access Act which would create a grant program to provide free transportation to help people get to COVID vaccine appointments and to appointments for any future COVID booster shots.
On Wednesday, I participated in the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy hearing on the Department of Energy’s Fiscal Year 2022 budget. You can watch my conversation with Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm about energy equity and climate resilience here.
On May 12th, I joined Representative Jayapal in re-introducing the HEAL Act for Immigrant Families Act of 2021.This bill would remove barriers and restore coverage so immigrants in the United States can participate in health care programs. By ensuring that all immigrants can access affordable coverage for which they are otherwise eligible, this bill would also allow immigrant women and their families to receive the health care they need, and create healthier communities and a stronger economy.
