Dear Neighbor,

Today I want to highlight two important resources that are now available to you, thanks to the American Rescue Plan, the COVID Relief Bill that Congress passed in March.

The expanded Child Tax Credit and the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program will help many families in our community. Read below to learn how to take action and receive your benefits.

Child Tax Credit: Money for Hardworking Families

The American Rescue Plan included monthly payments of up to $300 per child for American families beginning as soon as July. 52,000 households and more than 192,000 children in our district are eligible.

The best way to ensure eligible families receive their payments is to file a 2020 tax return – even if they don’t have earnings to report or don’t normally file. File your taxes before May 17th to get payments as soon as possible.

Families can get free help preparing and filing their taxes at several nearby locations found here or file for free online through the IRS Free File program here.

Emergency Broadband Benefit Program

The pandemic has made access to reliable, high-speed internet more important than ever for everything from virtual classroom learning to telehealth doctor visits. That’s why I supported the Emergency Broadband Benefit last year.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program will provide low-income families a discount of $50 off the monthly cost of home internet service. It may also provide an additional subsidy for a home computer. Internet providers who participate in the program can apply to the FCC for reimbursement. The program is now open for enrollment.
